Bone & Pot Steamboat, PJ

If you happen to be using LDP or the LRT train alot, I bet you'll notice a brightly lighted sign board "Bone & Pot", "Yau Guat Hei" in chinese, nearby the Kelana Jaya LRT station. I noticed it everytime I drive back to Sunway from PJ or Damansara, and one fine evening I decided to try it.

Bone & Pot emphasizes on serving quality food, so you'll be expecting more homemade dishes rather than frozen meatballs and seafood you'll find in most steamboat places. If you like homely steamboat, this is the place for you. That evening, the place was packed, and I had to wait a while before I get my table, however the services are prompt.

I tried their Signature Pork Bone broth (RM15.00) or you can choose to have Mix broth (RM16.00). The broth is good, has a rich taste, as it was simmered with big pork bone for over 24 hours. You can have free refill of the soup, and you're ensure that your soup is not filled with MSG like what some of the steamboat restaurants offer out there.

mix broth - signature pork bone broth + peppercorn pork stomach broth

fresh slices of grouper (RM19)

homemade pork ball (RM6.90)

mushroom homemade pork ball (RM7.90)

Pork slices (RM11.90)

lamb slices (RM15.90)

beancurd puff with shrimp paste (RM9.90)

white beancurd (RM4.50), needle mushroom (RM5.80), & yee mee (RM2.00)

Among all the ingredients, the homemade pork ball and the beancurd puff with shrimp paste is recommended. The pork ball has a tender texture while the shrimp paste is sweet and has a springy texture. The pork and lamb slices are sliced thin, similar to those you'll get in shabu shabu restaurant. All the dishes ordered are very fresh, combined with the pork broth soup = fantastic steamboat.

There are also six different type of mushrooms, and various type of vegetables which you can choose from. After adding on the ingredients, the soup is more flavourful, taste good and goes well with noodle.

The bill comes up to about RM100 for two, almost double what you paid for a normal buffet steamboat, but you know you're getting good broth and fresh ingredients. Give this place a try if you like steamboat.

Mulberry The Book Launch @ Gardens Mall

Yesterday, I attended the launch of Mulberry book in Gardens Mall, Midvalley. The book is created to celebrate their 40th anniversary. The colourful pages of the book are an imprint of the fashion and memories of Mulberry and its people, a journey through the brand's life in the past 2 years. Beautiful book, limited copies are available for RM300 per book~

First 50 visitors will get the golden bayswater balloon and door gifts (a pretty canvas bag, Mulberry 40th anniversary badges, stickers and stacks of beautiful photos of Mulberry's journey). There is also complimentary lemonade, champagne and Victorian sponge cake.

On top of that, Mulberry offer up to 40% discount on the Spring/Summer'11 collection, specially for that event. *jumps with joy* and of course, I got my watermelon mini Alexa :) Yeay ^^

Oh ya, by the way I'm in love with the recent OPI nail lacquer Femme de Cirque collection. Just feel that I should share about this lovely nail lacquer colour with you. Femme de Cirque collection has really sweet soft pastel colours, mostly in shades of pink. And one of it, In the Spot - Light pink which I have recently tried on has this really natural pink colour which gives you the healthy nail look. I totally ♥ pink!

I bought the Femme de Cirque mini collection last month where it has mini bottles of all 4 colours of the collection, which include this lovely shade (below) In the Spot- light pink, another creamy nude pink, a pretty light pink and a glittery sheen lacquer.

Nature filled Saturday~

Butterfly park in KL is located near the serene KL Lake Gardens, the same area where the world largest free-flight walk in aviary - the KL bird park is situated. One fine Saturday, we've decided to go there for some nature photo shoot. ^^

We stopped by the famous Yut Kee at Jalan Dang Wangi for brunch. The queues are long, so be prepare to wait a while.

The food in Yut Kee need no further introduction - they are homely and delicious~ Try it for yourself.
Yut Kee is famous for its Roti babi, a soft bun, fried and filled with pork, onion and lap cheong (chinese sausages). The roasted pork with apple sauce finishes early, so bear in mind to be there earlier. :)
Oh ya, I also love their marble cake and kaya swiss roll.~ Yum.

After the satisfying meal, off we to the KL Butterfly Park.

Although the butterfly park is not as big as the Penang one, there are still various types of butterfly.
The entrance fees for Malaysian : RM8 for adult ; RM4 for children, Non-Malaysian - RM18 for adult; RM8 for children, additional RM1 for camera.

Since the weather is fine, we've decided to drop by the Lake Gardens for some leisure photo shoot. The Lake Garden is a good place to do some light exercise, jogging or strolling during your free time.

Rice Dumplings at West Lake Garden, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa

Yesterday I had dinner at West Lake Garden, got interested to try after seeing their Bundled Treasures promotion (25 May - 6 June 2011).

different types of rice dumpling

Crab rolled with otak otak and steam egg white (RM22)

The steam egg white has a silky smooth texture, while the otak otak has a hint of spiciness in it. The crab meat is fresh and compliments both the egg and otak otak. A genius creation from the chef. This dish is not in the menu, and it was recommended by the captain, so I guess it's a must try from the chef's specialities.

River prawn noodle (RM35)

The noodle used is yee mee, slightly crunchy and the sauce is good.

steamed glutinuous rice dumpling with yam and lamb (RM23)

Thumbs up to the chef for this inventive rice dumpling, how often do you sample lamb in dumpling? Hah, here's one. The lamb goes well with the yam cubes, giving a nice aroma to the dumpling, nom nom nom! It is not very oily and every grain of rice well cooked, soft and rigidly in place :)

red bean rice dumpling served with honey (RM12)

coconut ginseng dessert with sea coconut (RM12)

Overall, a satisfying dinner~
Looking forward to trying more creations from the chef for the next upcoming celebration, mooncake festival!~

Dragon Boat Festival

Today is Duan Wu Jie aka Dragon Boat Festival or Dumpling Festival. This festival originates from China, celebrated every year on the 5th day of the 5th month of Lunar calendar, double 5. This year, Duan Wu falls on 6th June, double 6.

The origins of eating dumpling on this date came from the olden days, where a famous poet commited suicide in the river and the locals threw rice dumplings into the river to prevent the fish from eating the body of the poet. (Reference: Wikipedia, and I used to hear this story from my grandmother)

I shall post a blog about dumplings and dinner from West Lake Garden, Sunway Resort Hotel tomorrow, stay tune~ Happy Duan Wu Jie and enjoy your dumplings :)
